Overview and Gameplay
Stranded on a monster-filled South Pacific island, Marine Amagon must cross six dangerous zones and reach a rescue ship. This 1989 NES action-platformer mixes careful jumping with limited-ammunition shooting across 12 side-scrolling scenes.
Normal Amagon carries a machine gun but falls after one hit. Collecting a Mega-key and earning at least 5,000 points allows him to transform into Megagon, a stronger form with a health meter, powerful punches, and an energy attack. Score doubles as a resource because every 5,000 points becomes one Mega-point during transformation.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move left or right, crouch, and aim Megagon’s energy attack upward.
- A: Jump.
- B: Fire Amagon’s machine gun, swing the empty gun at close range, or punch as Megagon.
- Select: Transform when the Mega-key and score requirements are met.
- Start: Begin, pause, or resume play.
The game is strictly single-player. Ammunition, extra lives, score bonuses, and Mega-keys appear as enemy drops. A restricted continue option becomes available after reaching Zone 4.
Version Notes
The Japanese Famicom release was titled Totsuzen! Machoman. Its scientist protagonist and Macho Max premise were rewritten for North America, where the hero became Marine Amagon and his transformed form was renamed Megagon.
