Overview and Gameplay
John McClane is trapped inside Nakatomi Plaza while Hans Gruber’s terrorists work through seven vault locks. This NES adaptation of the 1988 film uses a top-down, nonlinear structure instead of ordinary stage-by-stage progression. Explore floors, stairs, elevators and ventilation ducts, fight roughly 40 enemies, collect supplies and complete optional film-inspired objectives before the final countdown.
Time, ammunition and movement all matter. McClane can contact the police, recover detonators, destroy the main computer for extra time, rescue roof hostages and reach Floor 30 by different routes. These choices can change later events and the ending.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement: The directional pad moves McClane in eight directions and aims the submachine gun spread.
- Combat: A uses the current primary attack, including the pistol, submachine gun, axe or punches.
- Equipment: Select cycles secondary actions, while B activates running, flash grenades or C4.
- Survival: Soda restores life. Broken glass and running damage McClane’s feet, slowing him until a medical kit is used.
- Information: Radios reveal enemy instructions, while limited visibility hides areas beyond McClane’s line of sight.
