Overview and Gameplay

Fire ‘n Ice follows the young wizard Dana as he protects Coolmint Island from Druidle’s spreading flames. Each single-screen puzzle is cleared by extinguishing every flame or defeating its special enemy figures. The main story contains ten worlds with nine standard rounds and a boss round in each world. Most standard puzzles can be selected from the world map, while boss stages open after the surrounding rounds are completed. Finishing the story unlocks 50 harder bonus puzzles and a sound test. An Edit Mode also lets players build and test custom stages.

Controls And Mechanics

Dana walks, pushes loose blocks, climbs one-block ledges, and travels through connected pipes. A or B creates or removes an ice block diagonally below him. Pushed ice slides until it strikes an obstacle or falls through an opening, allowing it to smother flames. Attached blocks can form stairs and bridges, while stones, jars, pipes, moving enemies, and rising hazards change later solutions. Touching fire triggers a retry prompt, and the Start menu can restart a stuck round. Standard puzzles have no timer or score requirement.

Version Notes

The North American release uses the title Fire ‘n Ice and records progress with a 24-character MagicWord password. The Japanese release, Solomon no Kagi 2, used cartridge saving and allowed the previous move to be undone with Select.
