Overview and Gameplay
Cobra Commander raises Atlantis from the ocean and turns the island into a weapons base. General Hawk leads the G.I. Joe team across a branching map of 22 stages, including routes, mazes, rescue missions, sabotage objectives, and battles against Cobra commanders.
Hawk begins alone, while Wet-Suit, Storm Shadow, Roadblock, Duke, and Snake Eyes become available during the campaign. Up to three unlocked Joes can enter a stage, and the active character can be changed from the status screen. Grid-based passwords resume progress from later areas.
Controls And Mechanics
Each Joe has an individual life bar, jumping ability, and special skill. Combat includes hand-to-hand attacks, machine guns, pulse rifles, lasers, and missile launchers. Weapons have four power levels and consume different amounts of ammunition.
K-Rations restore health, ammo pickups refill the shared supply, life upgrades extend a Joe’s life bar, and Battle Orbs damage nearby enemies. Support radios call Spirit for healing, Gung-Ho for ammunition, or Big Bear to revive a wounded teammate. If every selected Joe is wounded, continuing restarts the failed battle and resets the score.
