Overview and Gameplay

Elvin Atombender is preparing a devastating attack, and a lone agent has only eight game-hours to break into his fortress. Impossible Mission II mixes side-view platforming with exploration, searching, code-breaking, and inventory management across eight outer towers and a central ninth tower.

Rooms contain colored PIN digits, terminal commands, explosives, time bonuses, and musical code segments. Each tower must be solved before moving on, while robots, lifts, dark rooms, and destructible floors complicate the route. Careless bombing can destroy useful clues and leave the mission impossible to complete.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Use the directional pad to run, crouch, search objects, operate elevators, and position moving platforms.
  • A jumps, places an equipped bomb or mine while crouching, and activates selected computer commands.
  • B opens the pocket computer in corridors, where clues and tower combinations are managed.
  • Death and wrong final-terminal choices reduce the remaining mission time.

Version Notes

This North American release was an unlicensed NES port. American Video Entertainment and SEI sold it in different cartridges and packaging, while documented copies use the same game data. The Australian PAL release used the title Impossible Mission 2.
