Overview and Gameplay
The Wicked Wizard King has frozen the Fantasy Kingdom and trapped its people inside Dream Bags. As Kickle, collect three bags on each single-screen puzzle by freezing enemies into ice blocks, kicking them across the board, and turning them into bridges over water.
The NES campaign moves through Garden Land, Fruit Land, Cake Land, and Toy Land. Its 67 regular puzzles lead to four boss battles, while finishing the story unlocks 30 harder Special Game stages. Each board has a time limit, and the pursuing Striker appears when it expires.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move Kickle around the board.
- A: Create or remove an ice pillar directly ahead.
- B: Use freezing breath, or kick an adjacent ice block or movable hammer.
- Start: Pause and resume play.
- Select: Give up a life and restart when a puzzle becomes unsolvable.
Ice pillars stop sliding blocks and shield Kickle from danger. Later stages add springs, rotating hammers, breakers, enemy generators, slippery ice, and water holes. The game is strictly single-player and uses passwords with unlimited continues.
Version Notes
The Japanese Famicom release is titled Meikyūjima. It allows freer stage selection within each land, while the USA version uses a fixed linear route and shorter eight-character passwords.
