Overview and Gameplay

Kid Klown enters Night Mayor World after the wicked magician kidnaps his family. This 1993 NES platformer sends him through a forest, five themed realms, and Night Mayor’s castle. Its defining tool is an unlimited supply of balloons: they defeat enemies, open treasure chests, slow Kid’s fall, and become temporary springboards for reaching high platforms. Stages mix scrolling platforming, hidden strawberries, environmental hazards, side rooms, bosses, and a bonus game in which collected strawberries become balloon shots for health and extra lives.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions move Kid, build running speed, duck, use certain doors, and aim balloons while airborne.
  • A jumps.
  • B inflates and throws a balloon. Holding it while airborne slows Kid’s descent, while pressing directions toward the ground with B places a balloon as a springboard.
  • Start begins or pauses play and exits the bonus game. Select toggles title-screen music.
  • Question-mark items can grant a benefit or temporarily reverse directional controls.

Version Notes

The US release remodels the 1992 Famicom game Mickey Mouse III: Yume Fūsen. Disney characters, story scenes, music, and several bosses were replaced with Kid Klown, Night Mayor, and original artwork. It is the released retail conversion, not the canceled English prototype Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon.
