Overview and Gameplay
The WCW license turns Nichibutsu’s Japanese wrestling game into a USA NES release with NWA/WCW-era names and a diagonal-view ring. Players choose from a roster that includes Ric Flair, Sting, Lex Luger, Ricky Steamboat, Rick Steiner, and the Road Warriors, then fight through singles or tag-team matches.
Before a bout, each wrestler can assign four favorite moves from a larger move list. Matches mix movement, strikes, grapples, specialty moves, turnbuckle attacks, pins, weapon use outside the ring, and tags in team matches.
Controls And Mechanics
- Wrestlers can move around the ring, punch, kick, grapple, and throw opponents.
- Favorite moves are chosen before the match and assigned to directional inputs.
- A combined-button command triggers a specialty move.
- Context actions cover pins, climbing, diving, getting up, using weapons, and tagging partners.
- The game supports solo play and two-player matches.
Version Notes
The USA NES release is a WCW-branded localization of the Japanese Famicom game Super Star Pro Wrestling.
