Overview and Gameplay
Begin ranked 16th in the world and build a kickboxer capable of reaching the no-holds-barred Kumate. This NES conversion of the 1992 multi-computer game favors preparation and measured fighting over rapid arcade action. Before each bout, you can train Strength, Resistance, and Reflex, study the next opponent, and equip eight techniques from a pool of more than 32. Victories improve your ranking and statistics, while passwords preserve progress.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement and attacks: Use the directional pad to move and choose one of the eight equipped techniques, then press A or B to strike. Down also supports defensive parrying.
- Match system: One-minute rounds use four condition lights for each fighter. Damage depends on strength, resistance, technique power, distance, and the body area hit.
- Knockdowns: Fighters receive an eight-count after a knockdown and a ten-count for a knockout. Repeating one move can draw a referee interruption, while varied attacks can decide a tie.
- Multiplayer: Two players can fight simultaneously in local head-to-head matches.
