Overview and Gameplay
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Donkey Kong Jr., Koopa Troopa, and Bowser leave the racetrack for one-on-one combat in Kart Fighter. Created directly for Famicom and NES-compatible hardware, this unauthorized fighting game combines the cast of Super Mario Kart with mechanics inspired by arcade fighters.
Solo play follows an opponent ladder built around best-of-three-round matches. Players deplete an opponent’s vitality before the timer expires, earn points, and advance toward Bowser encounters and a score ranking. Five difficulty settings adjust the computer challenge.
Controls And Mechanics
- The directions control walking, jumping, crouching, blocking, and directional special-move commands.
- A performs punches, while B performs kicks. A close-range forward punch can throw an opponent.
- Fighters use projectiles, charging attacks, uppercuts, spinning moves, aerial attacks, knockdowns, and dizzy states.
- Two players can fight simultaneously in competitive versus matches.
Version Notes
This is an unlicensed Asian Famicom and NES release rather than an official Nintendo game. It is also associated with the Chinese title 瑪莉快打. Later fan translations and reskinned hacks are separate versions.
