Overview and Gameplay
Mortal Kombat 4 presents two-dimensional one-on-one battles with timed rounds and health bars. The single-player campaign sends a selected fighter through a sequence of opponents, while the two-player mode supports simultaneous versus matches.
The character-select screen advertises 30 positions, though many slots repeat a smaller group of fighters. The retained roster draws from Mortal Kombat 3 and includes Liu Kang, Stryker, Sonya, Shao Kahn, and a Nightwolf-labeled Shao Kahn variant.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, jumps, crouches, blocks by retreating, and enters special-move commands. A and B perform attacks and activate directional special techniques. Shao Kahn and the Nightwolf variant also have a move triggered by pressing both attack buttons together.
Winning the required rounds defeats an opponent and advances the campaign. Losing all health costs the round, while the timer can decide the result when neither fighter is knocked out.
Version Notes
This unlicensed Hummer Team release retitles a two-dimensional Mortal Kombat 3 adaptation as Mortal Kombat 4. The reduced edition uses three arenas, removes the options screen, and fills much of its advertised 30-slot roster with repeated fighters.
