Overview and Gameplay
Shao Kahn’s invasion of Earthrealm frames Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, a fast 2D fighter built around best-of-three rounds, special moves, combos, and finishing attacks. It expands Mortal Kombat 3 with returning fighters, extra arenas, Kombat Kodes, and home-version features.
Players choose a warrior and fight through computer opponents or face another player in direct versus matches. Health bars, a round timer, blocking, throws, aerial attacks, and the run meter shape each fight.
Controls And Mechanics
- The directional pad moves, jumps, crouches, and selects menu options.
- Four attack buttons cover high punch, low punch, high kick, and low kick.
- Block and run are mapped to the shoulder buttons, with running tied to the run meter.
- Kombat Kodes are entered before versus fights to alter match conditions.
- Two-player play is simultaneous versus fighting, not cooperative play.
Version Notes
This is the European PAL SNES release. The SNES version is based on the arcade game but has console-specific cuts, including fewer backgrounds and no playable Sheeva, while retaining competitive versus play.
