Overview and Gameplay
A malfunctioning combat simulation has trapped civilians inside its hostile battlefield. Gain Ground turns that premise into a tactical, fixed-screen action game built around rescuing captives and managing a roster of specialized warriors.
Each stage is cleared by defeating every enemy or guiding surviving characters to the exit before time expires. Rescued captives join the roster, while fallen fighters can be recovered and carried out. The Genesis version contains 50 stages across five historical and futuristic settings, with a boss at the end of each ten-stage round.
