Overview and Gameplay
Ares loses the Planet Buster sword and is thrown into an underground prison, turning the sequel into another maze-heavy escape and recovery quest. This Super Famicom action RPG is a port of Nihon Falcom’s earlier Japanese computer game.
The game keeps the Brandish series’ rotating-view dungeon design: the hero stays oriented upward while the world turns around him. Progress comes from exploring prisons, caves, towns, castles, laboratories, and fortress areas, fighting enemies in real time, solving dungeon puzzles, reading clues, finding shops, and managing equipment.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement uses Brandish-style rotation and lateral movement, with configurable turning behavior.
- Ares can attack, block, jump, examine, talk, open doors and chests, use items, rest, and manage inventory during play.
- Stats improve through use, while weapons, shields, magic, maps, money, and supplies shape survival.
- Compared with the first game, this sequel adds broader areas, backtracking, towns, auto-movement, and an on-screen automap.
- The game is single-player only.
Version Notes
This is the Japanese Super Famicom release, titled Brandish 2 on the box. It is primarily Japanese-language and is separate from the later Brandish 2 Expert reissue.
