Overview and Gameplay
Alien Woolies from planet Rayon have come to Earth for yarn balls, and Bubsy Bobcat’s huge stash makes him their loudest problem. Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind is a fast side-scrolling platformer built around running, jumping, gliding, and collecting yarn through large stages.
Bubsy travels through themed areas including a village, carnival, canyon train, river, forest, and the Woolie mother ship. Each chapter has a timer, yarn balls for score, enemies to pounce on, and mid-level markers that work as checkpoints. Passwords allow progress after sets of chapters.
Controls And Mechanics
- Bubsy moves with the directional pad, jumps and pounces, and glides to slow falls or attack from the air.
- Shoulder buttons let the player look farther across the stage before committing to a jump or run.
- Colored yarn balls and repeated enemy bops add to the score.
- Water, hazards, and enemy contact are dangerous, making speed and careful gliding both important.
- Two-player play is supported through the options screen or the second controller.
Version Notes
The European English release uses the title Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. A German European release is titled Bubsy in Krallende Begegnungen der Pelzigen Art, and the Japanese SNES title is Yamaneko Bubsy no Daibouken.
