Overview and Gameplay

Pacific carrier warfare drives Carrier Aces, a World War II flight-combat game with a strategic campaign layer. Each side commands a carrier air force, builds squadrons, launches missions, and fights to control seven South Pacific locations.

Combat switches between dogfights, strafing runs, torpedo strikes, dive bombing, anti-aircraft defense, and carrier landings. Fuel, altitude, speed, payloads, aircraft losses, and safe returns to the carrier all matter across the campaign.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The directional pad controls aircraft movement, aiming, and tactical selection.
  • A fires guns or anti-aircraft weapons, while X launches payloads such as bombs or torpedoes.
  • Y raises throttle and B lowers throttle or speeds up the tactical clock.
  • L supports sharper turns or faster dives, and R changes to an alternate view.
  • Two-player mode uses split-screen competitive carrier battles.

Version Notes

The European SNES version keeps the title Carrier Aces and was published by GameTek. The US version was published by Cybersoft, while the Japanese version was published by Yumedia.
