Overview and Gameplay
Doomsday’s attack on Metropolis leads into Superman’s fall and the rise of four replacement heroes. The Death and Return of Superman follows the DC Comics storyline through a linear SNES beat-’em-up campaign with story scenes between stages.
The player controls Superman, Steel, The Eradicator, Cyborg Superman, and Superboy at set points in the story. Stages focus on side-scrolling brawling, boss fights, throws, special attacks, and some flying combat sequences.
Controls And Mechanics
- directions move the hero and guide grab attacks.
- B jumps, starts flight with a double press, and lands while flying.
- Y punches, picks up or throws objects, performs grab attacks, and fires during flying stages.
- A uses a character’s Super Weapon, while X triggers a limited Special Attack.
- Life bars, five starting lives, continues, shield pickups, 1-ups, and character-specific powers drive the campaign.
