Overview and Gameplay
Kyle Blackthorne returns to Tuul with a shotgun, using deliberate movement, cover, and item puzzles to fight Sarlac’s forces and free enslaved prisoners.
This European SNES release is the PAL version of Blizzard’s cinematic action-platform game known internationally as Blackthorne. Each screen works like a compact combat puzzle: observe guards, hide in shadows, draw the weapon, shoot, climb, unlock routes, plant bombs, use items, and move deeper through the alien kingdom.
Controls And Mechanics
- Kyle can run, jump, crouch, climb, talk, pick up items, and move through doors.
- The shotgun changes the action set when drawn, including forward fire and the signature backward shot.
- Shadow hiding lets Kyle avoid enemy fire and wait for a safer opening.
- Keys, bombs, potions, levitators, and bridge items are used to solve route problems.
- The game is single-player only and uses password continuation.
Version Notes
- The European PAL release uses the title Blackhawk, while the US SNES version is titled Blackthorne.
- The US and European SNES versions reduce several blood effects compared with some later versions.
