Overview and Gameplay

U.N. helicopter crews take on desert, jungle, and island combat zones in Air Cavalry, a Mode 7 SNES helicopter shooter built around mission objectives rather than simple score chasing.

The player pilots military helicopters through campaigns in the Middle East, Central America, and Indonesia. Missions include destroying enemy units, eliminating special targets, guiding air strikes with a laser designator, and landing at marked zones to pick up or drop off commando teams.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Flight uses turning, forward and backward movement, altitude changes, weapon switching, and target selection.
  • Weapons include machine guns, chain gun fire, rockets, missiles, and laser-guided strike support.
  • Fuel, ammunition, lives, radar, altitude, heading, score, and system damage are tracked during missions.
  • Damage can affect engines, fuel, rotor, tail control, weapons, lock-on ability, and ammunition stores.
  • Two-player modes include split-screen competitive play and cooperative missions.
