Overview and Gameplay
Earth’s last counterattack comes from the Modified F-14 Strike Gunner in Super Strike Gunner, the European SNES title for Athena’s vertical-scrolling shooter. Based on the 1991 arcade game, it sends one or two pilots through enemy forces across land, sea, and space stages.
Before each level, players choose a special weapon, then dodge enemy fire, destroy waves of targets, collect power-ups, and survive with limited lives. Scores are tallied after stages, with bonus lives awarded for strong performance.
Controls And Mechanics
- Core play: use the directions to move and select weapons, B to shoot, and A to fire the chosen special weapon.
- Power-ups: Speed Up Units improve movement, Shot Units strengthen the main weapon, and Energy Charging Units refill special weapon energy.
- Co-op: two players fly simultaneously and can use Y or X to trigger vertical or horizontal attack formations.
Version Notes
This European PAL SNES release uses the title Super Strike Gunner. The Japanese and North American SNES versions are titled Strike Gunner S.T.G..
