Overview and Gameplay
A rogue Middle Eastern dictator threatens global war, and the player pilots an AH-64A Apache through desert combat zones to dismantle his forces. This SNES version is a port of Electronic Arts’ 16-bit helicopter action game, adapted for Super Nintendo by Visual Concepts.
Players fly over isometric battlefield maps, destroy vehicles and buildings, rescue prisoners, land at zones, collect supplies, and complete mission objectives while managing fuel, armor, and ammunition.
Controls And Mechanics
- The Apache uses separate weapons: guns, Hydra rockets, and Hellfire missiles.
- Fuel, armor, and ammo are limited, so supply pickups and mission order matter.
- Objectives can include destroying targets, rescuing people, and returning them to landing zones.
- Hover mode allows movement without changing the helicopter’s facing.
- The game is single-player only.
Version Notes
This is the European PAL SNES release of Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf. No separate gameplay change is part of this regional version’s public identity.
