Overview and Gameplay

General Kilbaba has seized a Gulf state, and the player pilots an attack helicopter through four large isometric campaigns to dismantle his forces. Each battlefield combines shooting with route planning, rescue work, and resource management. Objectives include destroying radar sites and weapons facilities, capturing key personnel, rescuing prisoners, and stopping a nuclear strike. Fuel, armor, ammunition, passengers, and mission order all affect survival, while passwords open later campaigns.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions fly forward, reverse, and turn using the default momentum-based handling.
  • A fires Hellfire missiles and, with a direction, performs a jink.
  • B fires Hydra rockets, while C operates the chain gun.
  • Start pauses the action and opens the map and status display.
  • Hovering over people or supplies lowers the winch automatically. Passengers can be delivered to landing zones for armor repairs.
  • The game is strictly single-player.

Version Notes

The same English cartridge build was released for both the North American Genesis and European Mega Drive markets. The Japanese edition used the alternate title Desert Strike: Wangan Sakusen.
