Overview and Gameplay
A rescue chopper is sent behind enemy lines to recover stranded hostages and bring them back alive. Choplifter III is a side-view helicopter action game where shooting is only part of the job: landing safely, loading survivors, and returning to base are just as important.
Each mission places hostages across hostile terrain, with enemy vehicles, gunfire, buildings, special weapon crates, repair points, and larger threats blocking the route. The helicopter can carry up to ten hostages at once, so rescue runs often require careful trips back to base.
Controls And Mechanics
- The directional pad controls flight, landing, takeoff, steering, and acceleration.
- B fires the cannon, Y fires the selected special weapon, and X changes special weapons.
- L and R turn the helicopter left or right.
- Some hostages are hidden in structures, so destroying buildings can be part of the rescue route.
- The SNES version is single-player only.
Version Notes
The European release keeps the title Choplifter III and was published by Ocean. The SNES game has its own level design and should not be mixed with the Game Boy or Game Gear versions.
