Overview and Gameplay

A fallen magic ruby turns Congo from a jungle monkey into a half-human hero, while Congette is kidnapped by a demon kid. Congo’s Caper sends him across a map of side-scrolling stages, including ghost towns, pirate ships, ninja castles, and dinosaur-themed areas.

The game mixes platform jumping, club attacks, item collecting, and stage routes. Congo can take damage by reverting to monkey form, then lose a life if hit again. Rubies restore his human form and can power him into Super Congo.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The directional pad moves, crouches, climbs, swims, and performs slides or dives in the right situations.
  • A and B jump or swim, while X and Y attack with Congo’s club.
  • L and R are used with the directional pad for extra-fast running.
  • Diamonds, rubies, sapphires, slot rewards, and extra lives support progression through the 35 levels.
  • Two-player mode is alternating turn play, not simultaneous co-op.

Version Notes

The European release uses the Western title Congo’s Caper. In Japan, the same SNES game was released as Tatakae Genshijin 2: Rookie no Bōken.
