Overview and Gameplay

A magic ruby turns Rookie and his girlfriend into half-human forms, then a demon kidnaps her. Tatakae Genshijin 2: Rookie no Bouken is the Japanese Super Famicom version of the game known overseas as Congo’s Caper, a comic prehistoric side-scrolling platformer with map-based level selection, club attacks, hazards, bosses, and secret stages.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Jump or swim with A or B, and attack with X or Y.
  • L or R with movement gives Rookie an extra-fast run.
  • Rubies restore the monkey form to human form and can power Rookie into a Super form with stronger movement abilities.
  • Diamonds, sapphires, slots, enemy bouncing, diving, slope rolling, and hidden routes shape progression.
  • Two-player mode is alternating turns, not simultaneous co-op.

Version Notes

This page covers the Japan-region Super Famicom release, titled 戦え原始人2 ルーキーの冒険. It is distinct from the first Joe & Mac and the later Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics.
