Overview and Gameplay
A five-minute score challenge replaces the full adventure in Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge. This special USA SNES cartridge was created for Nintendo competition events, using selected Donkey Kong Country stages with a timer and score counter added for judged play.
The player races through a limited set of platform stages, collecting bananas, K-O-N-G letters, and other score items while defeating enemies and clearing levels quickly. When the timer expires, the game freezes so the final score can be recorded.
Controls And Mechanics
- Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong use the familiar running, jumping, rolling, barrel, swimming, climbing, and tag-team actions from Donkey Kong Country.
- The cartridge starts with extra lives and changes some early collectibles to fit score competition rules.
- Only selected levels from the retail game are included.
- This version is a solo competition score challenge, not the standard two-player retail game.
Version Notes
This is the USA competition cartridge version, separate from the normal Donkey Kong Country retail release. It was used for PowerFest ’94 and Blockbuster competition play, then sold in limited quantity through Nintendo Power.
