Overview and Gameplay
Fatal Fury Special brings SNK’s expanded King of the Fighters lineup to the SNES, with Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, Mai Shiranui, Geese Howard, and other fighters competing in one-on-one matches.
The game builds on Fatal Fury 2 with a larger roster, playable boss characters, and the series’ two-plane fighting system. Players win rounds by draining the opponent’s life, advancing through CPU battles in 1P Game or testing moves against another player in VS Game.
Controls And Mechanics
- Fights use punches, kicks, plane movement, and 3D attacks rather than a single flat arena.
- The two-plane system lets fighters shift between foreground and background positions during battle.
- Count Down mode changes the usual flow with a timed scoring challenge against computer opponents.
- Two-player mode is competitive versus play, not co-op.
Version Notes
This is the European SNES version of Fatal Fury Special. The game is also known in Japan as Garou Densetsu Special.
