Overview and Gameplay
Swords, claws, spears, and other weapons define each duel in Samurai Shodown, the SNES conversion of SNK’s arcade and Neo Geo fighting game. The player chooses from twelve warriors and fights through one-on-one battles toward the final confrontation with Amakusa.
Combat focuses on heavy weapon strikes, guarded movement, special moves, score, continues, and bonus stages. The Rage Gauge rises when a fighter takes damage, temporarily powering up attacks when it reaches its peak.
Controls And Mechanics
- The directions move, jump, crouch, and guard.
- x performs a light slash, a performs a medium slash, y performs a light kick, and b performs a medium kick.
- l and r are used for hard attacks, while start pauses. Two-player play is competitive versus fighting, not co-op.
