Overview and Gameplay

Modern fighters Dan Axel and Bill Raymond face spirits, samurai, and a resurrected warlord as a haunted Sengoku-era invasion tears through a ruined city. Sengoku Denshou is the Super Famicom home version of SNK’s arcade and Neo Geo beat ’em up Sengoku.

Players move through side-scrolling stages, defeat enemy waves, collect items, fight bosses, and use transformations such as ninja, samurai, and dog forms. The action is stage-based, with no RPG growth or score-focused progression beyond survival and clearing each area.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions move the fighter around the belt-scroll stage.
  • Y attacks, while B jumps.
  • Pressing B and Y together performs a special attack that costs health.
  • Repeated attacks create basic combos, and jumping into attacks helps reach enemies at different angles.
  • Item pickups can restore health, grant weapon or energy attacks, or trigger transformation forms.
  • Two players can fight together in simultaneous co-op; it is not versus or alternating play.

Version Notes

This is the Japanese Super Famicom version of SNK’s Sengoku, published by Data East. The planned US SNES release under the title Sengoku was canceled.
