Overview and Gameplay
Super Mario Kart is the first Mario Kart game, turning eight Mario characters into Mode 7 kart racers. Players choose from Mario, Luigi, Princess, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong Jr., Koopa Troopa, and Toad, then race through cups built from five-lap circuits.
Grand Prix play uses Mushroom, Flower, Star, and unlockable Special Cup progression, while Time Trial focuses on records. Two players can race together in Grand Prix, face off in Match Race, or battle with balloons in arena courses.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions steer the kart and select menu options.
- B accelerates, while Y brakes.
- A uses items collected from Question Blocks.
- L and R hop and power slide through corners.
- Coins raise top speed up to 10, and losing coins makes collisions more dangerous.
