Overview and Gameplay

Ark opens a forbidden box in Crysta and begins a quest to resurrect the world: continents, life, and eventually civilization. Terranigma is a top-down action RPG from Quintet, known as one of the SNES library’s strongest late-era role-playing games.

Play centers on real-time weapon combat, dungeon exploration, town interaction, puzzles, money, experience, equipment, and Magirocks that become one-use magic rings or medals. Early towers restore continents before the adventure expands across the surface world.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Ark moves with the directional pad, can dash, jump, push objects, climb, talk, check objects, and open chests.
  • Combat uses weapon attacks plus techniques such as Rushing, Slicer, Spinner, and Slider, created by combining attacking with dashing or jumping.
  • Items and magic are managed through the Jewel Box, while guarding can block projectile attacks.
  • This is a single-player adventure with no two-player, versus, or co-op mode.

Version Notes

This is the European PAL SNES release, published as Terranigma. The Japanese original title is Tenchi Souzou, published by Enix in 1995.
