Overview and Gameplay
Dr. Eggman captures Sonic’s friends and begins turning animals into robots. Sonic races through seven two-act zones, rescues Cream, Tails, and Knuckles, and unlocks each character for later play. Every second act ends with a moving boss battle, while clearing the regular zones opens the Final Zone.
Branching routes use rails, springs, ramps, and high-speed sections. Sustained speed activates Boost Mode, and mid-air Trick Actions extend jumps or change direction. Collecting all seven Special Rings in an act opens a 3D Special Stage where enough rings must be gathered to earn a Chaos Emerald.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, crouches, rolls, and charges a Spin Dash with Down and A. A jumps and uses character-specific aerial abilities, B performs attacks, R triggers mid-air tricks after suitable launches, and Start pauses.
Rings protect against one ordinary hit, while shields, invincibility, speed boosts, and extra lives appear in item boxes. Linked play supports two-to-four-player competitive races with multiple cartridges and ring-collection matches with one cartridge.
