Overview and Gameplay

This double pack contains Sonic Advance and Sonic Battle, selected from a startup menu. Sonic Advance sends Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy through seven side-scrolling zones with enemy-filled acts, boss battles, Special Stages, Time Attack, and the Tiny Chao Garden. Rings protect the active character, while Chaos Emeralds are earned through Special Stages.

Sonic Battle follows Emerl, a robot that copies combat skills from Sonic and other characters. Its Story Mode spans eight connected character chapters, while Battle, Challenge, Training, and Mini Game modes provide additional arena matches. Emerl equips copied attacks within a Skill Point limit and gains more capacity through battles and Chaos Emeralds.

Controls And Mechanics

In Sonic Advance, the directional pad moves, A jumps, and B performs character-specific attacks. Item boxes provide rings, shields, speed shoes, invincibility, or extra tries. Damage scatters carried rings, and another hit without rings costs a try.

Sonic Battle uses the directional pad for arena movement, A for jumping, B for attack combinations, L for guarding and health recovery, and R for the assigned special move. A full Ichikoro Gauge can turn a special attack into an immediate knockout. Link-cable modes support races, Chao collection, arena battles, mini-games, and team competition for up to four participants.

Version Notes

This European cartridge contains both games on one Game Boy Advance card. Sonic Advance includes five languages, while Sonic Battle also includes Italian.
