Overview and Gameplay

Dr. Eggman plans to capture animals, gather the Chaos Emeralds, and build an empire. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy cross side-scrolling zones with distinct abilities, defeat robotic enemies, and battle Eggman at major stage endings.

Sonic emphasizes speed and spin attacks, Tails can fly and swim, Knuckles glides and climbs walls, and Amy uses her hammer. Hidden Special Springs lead to ring-collecting stages that award Chaos Emeralds. Clearing the game with all four characters and obtaining every emerald unlocks the Moon Zone.

Controls And Mechanics

The directional pad moves, crouches, and scrolls the view. A jumps and performs character-specific aerial actions, B uses special attacks, and Start pauses. Rings protect against ordinary damage, 100 rings grant an extra life, and item boxes provide shields, speed, invincibility, rings, or lives.

Linked multiplayer supports competitive races, Chao Hunt matches, and Collect the Rings for two to four participants. Race and Chao Hunt also include team rules, while the Tiny Chao Garden allows Chao care and minigames.
