Overview and Gameplay
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 5 Expert 1 centers on card duels against characters from the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Victories unlock stronger opponent groups and new booster packs, with each win granting a five-card pack for deck building. A calendar advances after every duel and schedules tournaments and card events.
D-Tactics presents fixed one-turn puzzles that require the correct sequence of summons, attacks, and card effects. The password feature also grants eligible cards from their printed eight-digit codes.
Controls And Mechanics
Duels use the New Expert Rules, including tributes, chains, effect monsters, Spell Cards, Trap Cards, and standard field zones. The directional pad moves through menus, cards, and field positions. A confirms commands, B cancels or enters the Battle Phase, R draws a card, and Start ends the turn.
Two players can connect separate Game Boy Advance systems for competitive link-cable duels. The link menu also supports one-for-one card trading between trunks.

This edition is an English fan translation of the original Japanese release. It retains the Japanese campaign structure, calendar, booster organization, and title identity.
