Overview and Gameplay
Meka-Chickens have kidnapped Billy Egg, his brothers, and Floella, leaving Alfred to search five surreal stages with his powerful beak. Each stage is a nonlinear network of rooms filled with doors, hazards, switches, moving platforms, water sections, and hidden passages. Alfred must find and peck every required balloon before entering a bonus calculation or flying boss sequence.
Diamonds increase the score, and collecting all 60 in a stage awards an extra life. Hidden watering cans contribute to the better ending, while clocks, presents, egg cups, and other pickups provide time, protection, or lives.
Controls And Mechanics
- Move with the directional pad and press up to enter doors.
- Jump with A, hold it for extra height, or use it while falling to slow Alfred’s descent.
- Press down while standing to peck, or while airborne to dive-bomb enemies and obstacles.
- The Pot of Jam lets Alfred fire a bouncing projectile with B.
- Swimming uses the directional pad with A, while switches and control blocks alter parts of each stage.
Version Notes
This is the North American NTSC edition. It keeps the same title as the European NES release and contains five stages. The US soundtrack plays at a somewhat higher pitch than the PAL version.
