Overview and Gameplay
Former punk rocker Duke Davis patrols the streets in this side-scrolling NES brawler, confronting punks, bikers, spies, athletes, a gorilla, and other odd opponents. Each timed stage mixes regular enemies with tougher encounters and a boss, while score, vitality, lives, and stage progress remain visible.
The defining feature is a rotating set of combat techniques. Duke has 15 moves overall, but only three are assigned to each stage. A practice screen demonstrates the current set before the fight begins. Defeated enemies drop weapons that Duke collects and discards at the stage exit for bonus points.
Controls And Mechanics
- Use the directional pad to walk, jump, and crouch.
- A and B activate the first and second assigned moves; pressing both together performs the third.
- Hearts and certain objects restore vitality, while extra lives are awarded at 20,000-point intervals.
- Two-player mode uses alternating turns rather than simultaneous combat.
Version Notes
This 1989 NES conversion followed Beam Software’s 1987 Commodore 64 game Bop’ N Rumble, known in Europe as Street Hassle. The NES edition was promoted for Mattel’s Power Glove, though a standard controller is fully supported.
