Overview and Gameplay
Take to the air beneath two balloons and defeat rival fighters by striking their balloons from above. Balloon Fight combines wraparound arenas with momentum-based movement, making height, timing, and controlled turns essential. Enemies descend by parachute after a hit, but those allowed to land can reinflate and return in a stronger form.
Game A presents numbered combat phases with bonus rounds after every third stage. Game C, Balloon Trip, is a single-life score attack through a scrolling course of balloons and lightning hazards.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement: Steer left or right while repeated flapping controls lift.
- Combat: Pop enemy balloons, strike parachuting opponents, and avoid water, lightning, and the giant fish.
- Scoring: Earn points from enemies, bubbles, bonus balloons, and perfect bonus rounds.
- Multiplayer: Game B supports two players simultaneously. Players can cooperate against enemies or pop each other’s balloons for points.
Version Notes
The NES edition was developed alongside the related arcade game rather than as a one-to-one port. Its Balloon Trip mode was created specifically for the home version.
