Overview and Gameplay

A stolen PK430 fighter plane waits beyond five enemy-controlled zones. In BreakThru, players drive an armed jumping vehicle across mountains, bridges, prairie, a city, and an airfield while battling soldiers, tanks, helicopters, missiles, mines, and environmental hazards.

Speed is central to survival. Moving right accelerates the vehicle, moving left slows it, and faster approaches produce longer jumps over gaps and obstacles. Enemies award points, while losing all three starting vehicles ends the game.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Use the directional pad to change road position and control speed.
  • Press A to shoot and B to jump.
  • Parachuted Power Barrels can grant timed three-way fire, persistent circular fire, or an extra vehicle.
  • The two-player mode uses alternating turns rather than simultaneous play.

Version Notes

This NES conversion adapts Data East’s 1986 arcade game, known in Japan as Kyōkō Toppa. Enemy placement was adjusted for the home version, while the five-stage structure and speed-based jumping were retained. Progress is not saved between sessions.
