Overview and Gameplay
C-Force enters Neo City to stop D.N.M.E., a terrorist group that has kidnapped the police commissioner. This NES entry is a North American Contra spinoff built around four commandos: Burns, Smith, Beans, and Iron.
The game runs through five missions, mixing side-view run-and-gun stages with overhead shooting sections. Progress comes from fighting through enemy waves, finding weapon items, using the right commando for the situation, and defeating mission bosses.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement and aiming: the directional pad moves the character and aims shots; overhead stages allow more open movement.
- Action buttons: one button jumps and one fires the current weapon, with crouching shots available in side-view stages.
- Team system: the command menu lets the player change commandos and use Battle Plans for temporary support.
- Power-ups: collected weapon icons fill a selection gauge for character-specific weapons such as rifles, homing missiles, mines, bazookas, and flamethrowers.
- Multiplayer: two players can fight together simultaneously, but they cannot select the same commando.
Version Notes
This is the U.S. NES release. The game has historical ties to Arc Hound, a planned Japanese Famicom title that was cancelled before the released North American version became Contra Force.
