Overview and Gameplay

Scrooge McDuck crosses the Amazon, Transylvania, the African Mines, the Himalayas, and the Moon in search of five legendary treasures. This NES cartridge is an unauthorized pirate-titled version of Capcom’s Disney’s DuckTales, not an official third game. Its compact stages, memorable music, and cane-based movement helped the original become one of the better-known NES platformers.

Players choose destinations from a central control room, explore for valuables and secret rooms, defeat a boss in each main area, and return to Transylvania after collecting all five treasures. Money acts as both score and part of the ending system, while some stages contain items needed elsewhere.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Walk, climb, jump, and steer Scrooge through side-view stages.
  • Use the cane as a pogo stick to bounce on enemies, cross hazards, smash containers, and reach higher paths.
  • Swing the cane into nearby rocks and objects to strike enemies or uncover treasure.
  • Choose Easy, Normal, or Difficult before starting.
  • Single-player only.

Version Notes

Duck Tales III is a pirate title-screen hack of the original NES game. It is not an official sequel, and no separate stages or gameplay systems are documented for this version.
