Overview and Gameplay
Jackie Chan battles an evil sorcerer’s forces after his sister is kidnapped. This NES action platformer combines side-scrolling jumps with close-range martial arts combat, sending Jackie through themed stages filled with animals, fighters, hazards, and bosses.
Progress depends on defeating enemies, crossing precisely timed platform sections, collecting useful items, and learning each boss’s attack pattern. The campaign is compact but increasingly demanding, with limited health and enemy placement punishing careless movement.
Controls And Mechanics
- Run, crouch, jump, and use martial arts attacks while moving through each stage.
- Directional inputs modify some attacks and allow aerial or specialized techniques.
- Strike item-carrying frogs to obtain health restoratives and special-move pickups.
- Each major stage concludes with a boss battle.
- The NES version supports one player only.
Version Notes
The American release uses the title Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu, while the Japanese Famicom edition is titled Jackie Chan. This NES game is distinct from the PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 version, which has different presentation and stage design.
