Overview and Gameplay
Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos lead this two-on-two beach volleyball game, released on NES as Kings of the Beach: Professional Beach Volleyball. Practice courts teach bumping, setting, and spiking, while Match Play offers adjustable difficulty and one-game or best-of-three competition. Tournament mode spans five beaches, with three consecutive victories required at each location and passwords awarded between stages.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement: Use directions to position a player and aim serves, passes, sets, and attacks.
- Ball handling: Bump incoming shots, hold a set for different heights, and combine the action buttons for serves, spikes, blocks, feints, and the aggressive Kong block.
- Rules: Only the serving team scores. Games require a two-point winning margin, and each side may touch the ball up to three times.
- Referee disputes: A nearby player can challenge a call before the score appears, but an unsuccessful argument can bring a warning or point penalty.
- Multiplayer: Two players can compete on opposite teams or cooperate as partners. Tournament supports two-player co-op.
