Overview and Gameplay

Earth belongs to monsters after humanity vanishes, but alien invaders force twelve demon species to defend the ruined planet. Last Armageddon is a Japanese Famicom RPG adapted from the 1988 PC-8801 original. Its heroes are split into day, night, and Salvan parties, with the active group changing as in-game time passes.

Exploration combines a top-down overworld with first-person, grid-based dungeons. Turn-based battles reward repeated use of physical attacks, magic, defense, and other actions by improving related statistics. Progress depends on developing all three parties, gathering information from 108 stone tablets, synthesizing equipment with resources earned in battle, completing monster-specific events, and reaching later towers and alien facilities. There is no conventional score, and play is strictly single-player.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Move, navigate menus, and select commands.

  • B: Cancel, close windows, and switch between walking and flight when available.

Front and rear enemy positions affect attack reach, while defending can block damage and status effects. Flying monsters can cross otherwise impassable terrain.

Version Notes

This Japanese-language Famicom conversion uses predetermined parties, revised music, condensed presentation, and fewer enemy types than earlier computer versions while retaining first-person dungeons.
