Overview and Gameplay

King Dotella offers a reward to anyone who rescues Princess Nasarell from Emperor Gerogeru, sending the fortune-seeking Kyle across Ripple Island. This Japanese Famicom adventure uses illustrated scenes and command icons instead of real-time movement. Players examine locations, speak with people and animals, collect objects, and apply the correct action or item to solve each situation.

The story is divided into five sequential areas. Each chapter has its own locations and inventory, and completed areas cannot be revisited. Choices, missed events, and later decisions lead to four endings. Progress can be resumed with a 20-character password; there is no score or experience system.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Select commands, choose routes, move the pointer, and browse items or password characters.
  • A: Confirm selections and advance dialogue.
  • B: Cancel a selection or move backward during password entry.
  • Start: Begin the game or confirm a completed password.

Repeated examination and conversation are important because scenes and characters may reveal new information after several attempts. The game supports one player only.

Version Notes

The original title is リップルアイランド, officially romanized as Ripple Island. The 1988 cartridge was released only in Japan; “Lipple Island” is an unofficial alternate spelling found in older ROM naming.
