Overview and Gameplay
Jason follows his mutated pet frog underground and discovers SOPHIA, an armored vehicle built for battling the mutants below. The adventure connects eight areas through side-view vehicle exploration and top-down interior stages.
Players drive, jump, shoot, leave SOPHIA to enter narrow passages, defeat bosses, and collect upgrades that unlock new routes. Later abilities let the vehicle break barriers, hover, travel underwater, and drive across walls and ceilings. Jason is vulnerable outside the vehicle, and long falls can be deadly.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move Jason or SOPHIA and aim the vehicle cannon.
- A: Jump in side-view areas or throw grenades during top-down sections.
- B: Fire the equipped weapon.
- Select: Exit or re-enter SOPHIA.
- Start: Pause and open the equipment menu.
The game is single-player and has no score system. Limited lives and continues, along with no password or save feature, make route knowledge and resource management important.
Version Notes
The North American release replaces the Japanese science-fiction war story with Jason, Fred, and the Plutonium Boss. It also changes introductory and ending scenes and adjusts part of Area 4. The Japanese title is Chō Wakusei Senki Metafight.
