Overview and Gameplay

Hal Bailman takes a Light Blaster into battle against eight enormous Air Fortresses threatening the planet Farmel. Each stage combines a forced-scrolling shooter approach with a slower, maze-like mission inside the fortress.

During the approach, Hal avoids enemies and terrain while collecting energy, Crash Beam ammunition, barriers, and other useful items. Inside, he explores corridors, finds the central reactor, destroys it, and escapes before the fortress collapses. Jetpack movement, changing gravity, limited energy, and increasingly complex layouts make resource management as important as shooting.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Move the Light Blaster or guide Hal with his jetpack.
  • A: Fire beams. Inside a fortress, standard shots consume energy.
  • B: Fire during approach sections and use limited Crash Beam shots inside.
  • Start: Pause the game.
  • Standing still restores some energy during interior exploration.
  • Passwords allow progress through the eight fortresses to be continued.

Version Notes

The North American edition uses rewritten English opening text. It is the licensed NTSC cartridge release, distinct from the earlier Japanese Famicom version and an unreleased Famicom Disk System prototype.
