Overview and Gameplay

Detectives Tony Gibson and Raymond Broady pursue wanted criminals through Manhattan after receiving mission briefings from Nancy. Each stage begins with a timed highway chase through traffic, tunnels, curves, obstacles, and branching roads. Closing the DISTANCE gauge reveals the suspect’s vehicle and resets the timer for the arrest phase.

The suspect is stopped by repeated collisions that fill its DAMAGE gauge. The campaign contains 21 stages arranged as three rounds of seven, with later rounds increasing the challenge. Before each pursuit, the player can choose automatic or manual transmission and select normal or quick steering response.

Controls And Mechanics

The directional pad steers and changes gears when manual transmission is active. A accelerates, B brakes, and SELECT activates a limited turbo charge. Score serves as both a performance total and currency for upgrades between stages.

Available parts include oil that protects maximum speed, extra turbo charges, a supercharger that improves acceleration and top speed, tires that reduce sliding, and a bumper that increases collision damage. Time expiration opens a short continue countdown while the suspect keeps moving farther away.

Version Notes

This Family Computer adaptation expands the pursuit into 21 stages and adds purchasable vehicle parts, transmission settings, steering-response options, synthesized briefings, and support for the Arkanoid paddle controller. Mission text is in Japanese, while many driving indicators and part names appear in English.
