Overview and Gameplay

Bugs Bunny is heading to his 50th birthday celebration, but jealous Looney Tunes characters have filled the route with enemies, traps, and contraptions. This side-scrolling platformer spans six themed worlds and 24 rounds, ending with a confrontation against the Tasmanian Devil.

Bugs runs, climbs, enters passages, collects carrots, and uses a large hammer to defeat enemies or interact with parts of the environment. Ordinary rounds finish at a large carrot, while secret routes and temporary WB-logo platforms reward exploration.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Move with the directional pad, including climbing ladders and entering supported openings.
  • Jump height depends on how long the jump button is held.
  • Swing the hammer to attack enemies and activate certain objects.
  • Three hearts track health through several damage stages, while falling costs a life immediately.
  • Collected carrots provide chances in bingo and timed hammer bonus games, where extra lives can be earned.

Version Notes

The North American cartridge uses the title The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout. The Japanese version was titled Happy Birthday Bugs, while Europe received The Bugs Bunny Blowout. The title screen reportedly retains the Japanese name.
