Overview and Gameplay
Mikey searches for his captured friends across six stages inspired by the film, including the Fratellis’ restaurant, underground caverns, waterfalls, and One-Eyed Willie’s pirate ship. Each of the first five stages contains three keys needed to unlock the exit and one hidden Goonie who must be rescued before the final stage opens.
Bombs dropped by enemies break sealed skull doors that conceal keys, captives, healing items, weapons, and bonus rooms. Door contents change when a new game begins, while hidden equipment can protect Mikey from flames, water, falling rocks, and projectile attacks.
Controls And Mechanics
Mikey attacks with a kick and can collect a slingshot containing 50 shots. Bombs damage enemies and open doors, but their explosions can also harm Mikey. Red potions restore health, yellow potions grant extra lives, and collecting eight diamonds refills the health meter.
Stages use countdown timers. Losing all health, touching a bomb blast, being crushed, or running out of time costs a life. Completing the adventure restarts the campaign with faster enemies and altered secret-item conditions.
Version Notes
This is the original Japanese Famicom cartridge edition. Its objectives rely mainly on keys, doors, item icons, and stage layouts, so little Japanese reading is required.
